Glow Plug Quality?
I've been searching (okay, not too hard) trying to find any information on the best quality glow plugs for my 2000 SD. I read enough to stay away from Autolite and the my stock ones have lasted over 150K. But my truck is starting to get bucky about starting in the MN winters. I've replaced the GPR twice and put fresh batteries and alternators in last fall. Before it gets too cold I figured I'd get new glow plugs and wiring harness's to install. I found a company (AccurateDiesel) that makes the full kit with American made glow plugs.
Anyone have good or bad opinions on them or other manufacters for replacement glow plugs? ![]() Thanks... |

![]() i think their glows are actually autolites. i could be wrong. iirc the problem with autolites is they can swell over time making them difficult or impossible to pull. motorcraft glows are recomended. i have "heard" bosch is good as well. i bought a set of glows (Motorcraft ZD11's) this week on ebay for $60 new. you can find them on ebay and elsewher for $80 to $120 generally. the local dealer wants $200 for a set. also, if you change your relay again, get the Stancor relay (586-902 i think is the model) its built to handle the 200 amps. people say its worth the extra $30 or so. but as far as the uvch, accurate diesel should be ok. |
