truck dies when you put it in drive

Truck was running fine last night when I parked it, today I backed it outand when I dropped it into D it bogged itself out. Tried a few different times and it kills the truck everytime I put it in drive but reverse works fine. Where should I start

Thats exactly what our old 97 chevy 1 ton did. Put it in drive or reverse on that one and she would die. They ended up replacing the whole trans on that one at 15k miles. But i would start with the tc like dietormain said.

Any suggestions on what to get? And what else to upgrade while I'm in there?

If you are pulling the trans i think BTS is one of the ones to go with for a good torque converter. You might also want to get a different valve body for the trans. Heck i would have the whole trans rebuilt if you have the cash since it'll be out. I rebuilt my 01's trans and put in the transgo tugger shift kit. That made a huge difference.
