New to me 99
Just picked up a late 99 crew with 194k. Engine appears to be in exellent shape and has a brand new transmission, ball joints, rotors, brakes, and hubs. I've been on here for awhile researching and wanted to say thanks for the info. I do have one question, the previous owner just switched it to amsoil at 160k. Would there be any issues going back to delo or rottella? I also watched alot of the powerstroke help videos on youtube. Does that guy seem to be a trusted source to go by on maintance?

Hes questionable. But you should be able to switch back to dino fine. might need to change it soon to make sure its all out, then a regular interval after that.
That CC SB is a nice one. Looks leveled too. Welcome to the org btw! |

Yeah man, nice purchase
I think there was an entire thread on here awhile ago where all of the Powerstrokehelp haters were bashing the ever loving chit out of that guy. I've watched lots of his stuff and didn't think he was a total idiot....

Yeah I'm not too sure about a few of his performance mods but most of the more basic stuff seemed pretty legit.

I've done some looking on here, but what should I need to be replacing and servicing at and around the 200k mark to keep rolling? Would pipe boots be something that should be changed out for good measure? Ive read the deisel site boots are good.I dont think my engine was neglected at all, but I dont imagine anyone went above and beyond. All the driveline fluids are fresh.

Sounds like most of the 150-200k freshen fixes have been done so you got lucky there. What do the boots look like? Are they oil rotten and soft feeling? IMO if you have some doubts and a couple extra bucks, an afternoon playing in the driveway with a buddy and a beer is WAYYYYYYYYYYYY better than a ride on a toter, roger? COMPLETE fluid flush, and I mean COMPLETE is something I would do also.
Does your new truck have any other mods? You might want to look into the basics: CAI, exhaust, chip/tuner of your choice. |
