2nd steering box in 9 months
F350 gear boxes suck! First replacement was in the middle of winter when the sector shaft snapped pulling out of the driveway. and today I was driving home from the gf's house when i was hearing a really bad grinding/raddle when ide hit a bump from the front left of my truck. So I jacked up the front left tire to check the hub and everything seemed good in the driveline. Started shaking the trackbar to see if it was tight and it was, then the checked draglink. and WHOA the sector shaft (shaft that holds the pitman arm) was moving up and down out of the box about a 1/4" of play.
tomorrow im gunna go to napa and see if I can get one under warrenty. O yeah also today I replaced the thermostat cuz the truck was overheating. But that ended up as a semi fail because I put it all back together and its leaking, so I gotta go pull it apart again and do some silicon work and put it back together and hope it doesnt leak. Then I can a radiator flush! Today Sucked! |

update
Update: Well FML! Changed the box out and the noise is still there. The box was free thank god cuz of warrenty so all I have is my time into it. But anyways for that noise, Whenever the hubs are unlocked it makes the noise, but when the hubs are locked in, it makes no noise. So I pulled the hub off and determined it might be the little needle bearing that the axle shaft runs on. When back to napa and got a new axle shaft seal and needle bearing and hopefully that will fix the probelm.
Right now Im running without an axleshaft. And finally got my coolant leak stopped with a new thermostat gasket. So the plan for tomorrow is the the axle shaft back in and everything greased up and put together and do a coolant flush. |
