4x4 HELP
I will try to give the best description I can to the problem and any help will be greatly appreciated. The truck is a 2000 Crew Cab Short bed 4x4 with an automatic. Here lies my problem. I just bought the truck and it needed u-joints on the front driveshaft. They were a nightmare to get out and once they were out I noticed where the 2 u-joints are next to each other right off of the transfer case there appeared to be a bearing or the remains of a bearing. Is the replaceable. Do I need a whole new piece. Is it safe to drive around with the front drive shaft off.

you probably need to move this thread to the 7.3 problems section... you'll get better help there. Sorry, i'm not that mechanically inclined, but here's a free bump for you.

you can drive around without the front driveshaft...that shouldn't be a problem.
I'm not familiar enough with the part in question to answer whether or not it's replaceable. |

Sounds like you are discribing a Carden joint. Two universal joints on one end of the driveshaft. If so this is a common problem. Folks don't or can't lub the center between the two universals and it wears out. Best to have it replaced by a good driveline shop. It's okay not to have the front shaft in while driving. Good luck

Thank you very much for all the help guys. Yes it is the carden joint. Taking it to my driveline guy tuesday. I am a drag racer so I just wasn't used to seeing something like that under my cars.
