front diff help and info needed
I have an 01 dually 4wd. I think theres big issues with the pinion bearings and lots of wear on the spider gears. Looks like it needs to come apart.
The whole unit as an assembly, is this called a differential? or an axle? Being a dually is it a dana 60 front end? Whats the front end in a srw f250 or f350? Are they all the same? Are some dana 50's? I am going to keep my eyes open. Never know what will be on craigslist or locally for sale. I want to know what to look for and what not too look for. The piece the pinion gear boltto is called what?? thx |

On the early SRW superduties pre 2002 IIRC, the front was a Dana 50, not sure on the DRW's.
If you pickup a axle from a SRW truck, it should just be a matter of transferring the spacers over to the new axle. If you get a axle from a 05+, their a different width and don't use leaf springs. |

why not just get your axle rebuilt?

I may just rebuild mine. But i am not in a major hurry. Might find a real good deal on something complete
I am aware that 05 up is different. I think the dually's are dana 60's in the front with dana 80 in the rear. The srw and 50's and spicer 10.5's, I think. I need to confirm this. Or prove it not true. I know it to be true i can just put the spacers on the srw axle. But not sure if i want to get a dana 50, If my thinking is correct. |
