PS Newbie WTB 99-02.....Any big differences?
Are there any major mechanical differences in these years I should look for? For example, tranny gear changes between 05-06 in Duramax. Or the "53" block in 99-01 Cummins. Is there any particular issues with any of the years between 99 and 02 with the powerstroke?

Read up on the differences between early and late 99's.
Also, the 99's were notorious for extremely loud torque converters. |

![]() In the Early 99 section there is a writeup. Basically, 99-01 have forged rods (01 was hit and miss as the factory expiriemented with PMR's, then used up their forged inventroy, and then went on with PMR's) PMR isnt bad, but is said to be safe and go no higher than 400 hp without swapping to forged. Also the TQC was different, and youll find that between the introduction (around june 98) and late 99 (december 99 or so), youll see different intakes, smaller or larger injector cc's, hub differences irrc, early 99's have a 15* HPOP and lates have a 17*, different ECU, etc. there is more, but that is the majority i think. I just picked up a 2000 excursion with the 7.3, will this model have the forged rods and how can I know for sure? what should I look for. What kind of power will a forged rod 7.3 be able to handle. Sorry for the newbie questions, thanks in advance. Got my fingers crossed on the hopes of it having the forged rods!
Sorry for the hijack OP Last edited by CompOrangeCobra; 09-03-2010 at 05:36 PM. Reason: hijacked the ops thread. |
