INITIAL STARTUP
recently rebuilt my 7.3. tried to start it saturday, unsuccesfully. hooked my supertuner programer up and got code p0603.
fords shop manual p0603 = Possible causes: Battery or PCM has been disconnected. Battery cables loose or poor connection. Battery discharged. Open in KAPWR circuit. Blown fuse. PCM. Check for other codes. Key on, engine off. Clear DTCs. Cycle key off, then on. Perform retrieve Continuous DTCs we checked all the 5 amp fuses - o.k. the batteries had been out since the end of may. could it had lost all the pcm memory that contols starting. also is there any initial priming procedures that should be performed that may allow it to be started. could i possibly install the lowest supertuner performance program in hopes of restoring some type of memory to the computer to allow it to start. any other help that i may not know about or can find will be very helpfull. |

That code is just from having batterys unhooked. What doesit do when you try to start it?

You can try a tiny bit of brake parts cleaner in the intake to help start it. If you had the injectors out, oil takes forever to make it back to them. In that case, crank in 20-30 bursts and keep an eye on how hot the starter is getting.

i would love to know how to do this. but i hear its easy with good resources, and i also hear never rebuild a diesel unless your a diesel mechanic from a lot of people. they always cite "due to tight tolerance of a diesel engine..."
maybe im wrong, but seems to me it would be easier than a gas motor... |
