simple 5w is cold weight. The flow will be much better at start up with a 5 weight oil. 40 is the weight of the oil at operating temp. the 5w-40 is better for start up flow and still protects like a 15-40 at warm temps. Really 5-40 is an all climate oil for diesels

Hope this helps

IMO 40,000 miles on an oil change is stupid. even with analysis. i will go no more than 15,000.

Lets just say this will put it in perspective my friend just killed his DMax by going that far he had 30,000 miles on his oil. And yes OAI said it was good for another 10,000 So he kept goin on it 2,000 miles later he spun a bearing. Sent the oil in for analysis to another company the said the oil should have ben changed a long time ago it was way past due. Almost 0 TBN.

Now that being said I have alot of faith in Amsoil but I myself will never more than 15,000 on a change. And will not go more than 15,000 on a change. Also will use an INDEPENDANT lab. not one that is biased

I never use OAI, for that same reason. I use blackstone labratories.

Matter of fact got a sample back yesterday on my 2000 and all showed perfect with the oil. Wear particles where extremely low. Running diesel marine and no bypass just an eao99. all of my wear metals were 0 except iron was 5 out of 17 with 8k on my oil. TBN was still 10 and raw amsoil is a 12TBN.

I'm much like you I change mine usually every 10K and will continue 2. It still save me money from going to walmart and buying cheap filters, and dino

I run 15-40 Motorcraft Superduty oil and change it anywhere from 3k to 5k miles. Should I have it tested, and if so, with how many miles on an oil change?

I would say you don't need it every oilchange, but I would have yours done if you have never gotten a sample read. It's actually pretty cool how it works and will give you more knowledge of oil.

Blackstones average wear particle readings come from oil with 5200 miles on it.

With that said I would run your motorcraft for 3k then send a sample. Everything should show low or good on your sample. If this is the case let your next drain go to 5K and send in another sample and see what it looks like. The do a sample every 10k.

I didn't see where you said your friend was using Amsoil or anything else other than 30,000 miles and a dead duramax, and oil analyzers never tell you you can go for any specified miles, they always recommend sample at next
regular interval. please gives us more specific details on your friends truck and maybe it may seem a little more believable when you make outlandish comments, just to clear things up on my end I will post my oil samples of my truck and my friends truck, so there isnt any confusion, and I disagree with biased oil sampling companies, if that holds any valitidy the company would fold and close it's doors, please understand there is differences in machine testing and varibles that can make anyone dizzy, but to make a asumption of biased lab results is completely un founded and simply a internet opinion and nothing else

My insolubles were 0.1

Why does your sample reading state you are using the PCO instead of HDD?

EDIT!!! Nevermind I see your talking about your second sample. is the first sample yours also or a customers. I never have sampled the PCO. The HDD is by far the best product they offer for diesel, I even run it in chevy 5.3L.

Which bypass are you using?

dual filter mount with a EaO26 and a EaBP110
that is my truck.
the PCO sample is from a 6.0 2005 with no bypass
look at the nitr and oxid between the two samples
