One thing most don't know about the chevy is the front end geomtry is all out of wack. Idler and Pitman arms will go out very often. Although a inexpensive fix would be the Cognito idler and pitman support kit. Cost is 200.00 and will save you a fortune. I do about 3 per week here in AZ

Yep, that's the 24v. They are a little bit louder idling than the 12v.

I used to talk like this about the GM's.....about 2 years ago. The GM HD Duramax trucks have prooved mighty capable of doing the jobs that Ford and Dodge diesels had been doing for many years prior. I have seen IFS problems as mentioned above, but nowhere near what straight axle guys predicted. It's a stout suspension and it rides very well. There are a heck of a lot of farmers that would show you that it CAN do "real" work just as well as the others.

So Lee in Ottawa (sounds like a Jim Rome "clone" lol) Don't scratch any of the 3 diesels off your list.

If your gonna buy the cummins make sure too look for the stamp on the block. There is a block made in mexico if I recall corectly and it is made of weaker material than motors built within the states. I do not remember off hand what stamp number it its but Ill post it asap.

I sure wouldn't assume they have been babied, especially the dodge with an intake, programmer and exhaust. I just have an intake and a programmer in mine, and it's hard to keep my foot out of it!! The last thing my truck is, is babied.
Todays pick-em-up trucks were designed around a 4x8 sheet to fit between the wheel wells.

Just FYI....that 4x8 sheet will fit in the bed perfectly and inbetween the wheel wells. (assuming it's a LB like you said.) I've had 2 sheets of plywood in the bed of my truck for about 8 weeks now. LOL!

Buy the Ford...it will last longer. 167K miles is NOTHING!

GM trucks haven't proven anything to me on the farm...my grandad put a hydra bed on his 06' 3500 dually...even unloaded the bed squats the rear end of the truck down...it squats more with 1 5X4 round bale than his 350 does with 2 5X5 round bales...we put 1 4X4X8 square bale on it and it was squated as far as it could go...he was afraid to drive it like that...the truck also hardly makes it over the mountain with a loaded 20' stock trailer when his Ford and my father's Dodge haul 28' loaded stock trailers over the mountain problem free...and he's had to replace 4 injectors in it so far...and he's always complaining about it not being able to go places his other trucks do because it doesn't have enough ground clearance...he flat out hates the truck, but he paid for it, so he's stuck with it now...

I dont know how it is where you're from but there's not many farmers here driving around in Chevy's...maybe they are just not suited for the terrain here...I dunno...but I do know that i'll never own one, that's for sure

Well guys thanls for all the input. I just got back from Toronto with our new to us 01 F350 ext cab lariat.

Like i said has 169km's on it, the psd obviously.

Liked it way better than the dodge, the ride, int, brakes, etc everything.

The truck like the other dodge is immaculate. I'd eat off the carpet and paint. The truck seems like it was really well cared for, as well we got it for a killer deal (at least i think so)

Anyways thanks again for the advice and i'll post come pics when I get some.

One last thing. What issues do these trucks have that i should adress right away? I know the dodges have bad fuel systems and ****ty front ends. Any main problems with the fords?

My plan is a intake, exhaust, and programmer within the next few months. Any recomendations as far as products. I loved the edge juice with attitude in the dodge i test drove but though i read that they don't work well with the fords? Is that true?

probably woudn't be a bad idea to go ahead and buy another cps to have in the glove box. Mine went out at 91000, seems to be one of the only probs on the 7.3. About a 10 minute job and around 50.00 bucks off ebay (cheap insurance). Other than that hammer down
