Research each truck well and make the decision based on that. Despite what you will hear from many, the Dodge Auto is a good trans but so many beat on it without upgrading it so it gets a bad rep. Having a new lift and injector pump is a big plus on the Dodge. Don't allow a lift pump problem to get bad, when it dies it taks the Injection pump with it. The VP44 pump is capable of lasting a long time if the LP is working properly. Put a FASS or Walbro pump on it and reliability goes way up. The Dodge having a performance converter is a huge plus, and will make all the difference modded. As for the Ford yes if it is long bed it will hold a 4x8 sheet....all longbeds will. If you plan on going the performance route down the road it will get expensive vs the Cummins. The Ford is built better than the OLD Dodge trucks meaning the 02 down. But, again, when people don't take care of things they will deteriorate.

Not saying the cummins 12 and 24 valves arn't good, but lift and injector pumps have always been a problem.
Um, 94-98 12v had the best injection pump ever made, p7100, so forget that idea. The lift pump and injector pumps problems in 24v don't mean the engine itself isn't good.

I never said the cummins was a bad engine, it's an awesome engine and reliable as all hell. The 12 valve was much better than the 24 only due to fuel issues. Put it this way If I got rid of my stroke " NO WAY " I would buy an 04 2500 b4 a 6.nothing. Also I have been looking at prices on all of the big 3 and the dodge is bought for less, but hold it's value in the market better than ford and chevy. Truck wise though you have to work alot harder to keep the dodge as tight as a ford. My 350 is a 2000 and has 216K on it and It has never once been to the dealer for a problem and is as tight as when it came home, no dash or door rattles, no air leaks from window seals. I couldn't be happier with it. Now my 6.0 has been a whole different story, EGR, EGR cooler, and head gaskets, and that was b4 I lifted to the moon. I sure like the power of a stock 6.0 though, but a chipped 7.3 will run with it all day long and get 18MPG on 35's

I went with a Ford when i choose, Me and the wife were looking at a Dodge also. But I remembered our 99 Dodge it got pretty rattly around 90k miles. it was a Gasser but i dont think there is that much difference body and frame wise. especially when it comes to build quality. Yah but the Cummins is a Badass motor for outright power.

go with the PSD or better yet a get the duramax, now i'll have my head taken off..i agree the cummins is a awesome diesel but they didn't get the truck part very good, some of the most notorious problems are wheel bearing's,all the electronics on the truck, automatic tranny's,a very small interior and the bumpers rust quicker then the ford and gm trucks..i have experience in buying computers for these dodges and a whole lot of other things o keep it runnin..

Hey guys I just got back from a 12 hour round trip to see this Dodge I was talking about. The truck was beautiful, every available option, clean body, well taken care of, nice mods etc. However just like u all mentioned the motor was great but the rest just felt cheap. The steering was the main reason we didn't get it. It was extremely loose and the wheels could be turned almost 1/4 - 3/8 of a turn and the truck wouldn't move. Another problem was that it had an edge juice on stock fuel system and was only seeing 3-4 psi of fuel at WOT. and only 9-10 at idle. Also the motor was loud, WAY louder than a 01 duramax we test drove, I usually don't mind but this was a little annoying I could have lived with it though. Anyways, for a dodge enthusiast this truck is perfect. needs fuel system upgrade and some front end work. Honestly if he would have come down on his price $1500 it'd be in my driveway right now but such is life. Looks like it's either a psd or duramax on the list now.

We didn't have time to go and see the f350 but hopefully will be able to check it out this weekend.

Thanks for all your advice guys it was bang on.

Yeah, dodges steering does wander a lot...it's hard to keep the dern things in the road...but if your looking at a cummins...at least buy a 12V...used to have an old 12V that we put almost 600,000 miles on...also, at the local truck pull, an old 12V outpulled an International CXT...a 7.3 came in just a few feet short of the CXT too

What are you going to be using the truck for?...if your doing any real work, such as farmwork or anything related...I sure wouldn't buy a d-max...i'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed with a 7.3...they are true and tried engines...and they've stood up to almost all the hell i've put them through over the years
