His old black truck up there in that picture was running high 16s, low 17s, and it was a 4wd 7.3 6spd with only a chip, straights to dual stacks, and a bhaf... Pretty sure I'll be able to get similar results.

But yeah, I'd imagine it'd drive me crazy driving an auto. Left foot stompin on the invisible clutch, not being able to dump it, and most of all not being able to pick em up by usin the age old "Maybe I'll take you out sometime and teach ya to drive a stick."

Plus I plan to be pull 5th wheels, and that granny gear sure is nice!
Manuals are fun to drive, but boy does it get old in traffic!
What year Cummins did your friend get?

Dont worry bout having a crew cab in college...its more fun that way. and i drive a manual all the time in traffic...just use one gear most of the time and im fine just roll a lil coal at first but i enjoy cloudin up a full intersection once in a while. that 7.3 is a mean lookin ride. good luck in ur hunts and welcome to the site.

I do the same thing in traffic, usually stick it in 1 or 2 and let it creep...but when it's stop and go and you have no choice but to go in and out with the clutch or in and out of gear it gets annoying.

He got the 06 4x4 4 door longbed.

But naw, you think drivin a standard gets annoying? My toyoter is locked up in the rear (spooled) with 4.88s, no ABS, and a bent LSPV. Can you say chirp chrip, Raaaaaaa, oh ****, Errrrrrrrrrrr! Yeah, thats the sound of chirpin tires around a wet corner, tires loosin traction, cussin, and spinning through an intersection. Gotten quite used to it lol.

But yeah, I'm in college, and I work full time. Single cabs with bench seats are just much more intimate. Love having the womenfolk sittin right next to you. And I'm a fabricator/welder, so I'm always luggin around a few ton pieces of metal, and I'm pretty sure my milage would be a little better with a std than an auto. It's not only gonna be about goin fast, its gotta be my DD and work horse too.

And on the off chance that I get that wild hair in my ***, how much does lifting from an ifs platform cost? I mean I aint worried about the rear at all, seein as how I can fab up hangers and shackles all day long lol, but not sure what in all goes with ford's non 4wd ifs setup. With my yoter I could just crank up the torsion bars and use a balljoint spacer. Don't really think that'd work with these beasts right?

Well if your friend bought an 06 he has some learning to do, the 3rd gen dodges don't have "fuel plates" like the old 12v's so buying that #1 or 0 plate will be nothing more than a paperweight for him. A Walbro or Fass fuel system is going to be necessary. Also his injectors are capable of a lot of power over stock and upgrading them is useless without getting an upgraded stage I or II cp3, as well as a bigger turbo.....they will only drain the rail and give him less power with stock air/fueling.

Also the manuals do seem to get better mileage.

Well, I aint too worried about him, I'm sure he knows more about what he needs than I do, just recalling what he said over a few beers on the tailgate... Besides, he'll just throw money at it till it's where he wants it.

I'm more worried about what I want and can afford lol. He's the type that have never had to work a day in their life, and have unlimited access to the piggy bank. Good guy, don't get me wrong, but its a little fustrating to guys like me who work full time to put ourselves through college at night.

I'll get off my soapbox now lol...

but the thing about people that have to work for the things they want is that we place a lot more value on what we have. We work hard and when we reward ourselves for it I am sure we get a much better feeling than the guy who just woke up and wondered, gee....what will I buy today?

Very true. Though unfortunatly we caint put a price tag on sentimental value when it comes time to sell er for something new.

But by the same coin, I'd take someone's loved baby, over a paid-for-by-daddy's truck, seein as how they're generally taken better care of.

Probably won't be buying this exact truck from that place. Went back today, and the salesman was a complete jack*** jerk. Talking down to me, insulting my baby, overall very derogatory. Though to him, he said he "tells it honest, how it is". I'm taking my business elsewhere.

Probably go out to the country, and try and find a similar one, and probably for a better price. I mean this is southern Texas for pete's sake. Find one truck you like, there's probably 10,000 more in a 50 mile radius.
