Very good points. And thanks yall for the warm greetins. I just want one sooo bad already haha. And I don't think I'll be liftin it. Thinkin I'll race it. Buddy who's giving me the programer intake and pipes was able to run 14.2's with his huge lifted F350 on 38's. Sure with a low 2wd dually I'd be able to maybe run high 13s :burnout |

If you want to race it, get an auto. They are faster. I would def look at a 4x4 Crew cab 96 or 97. They look sweet lifted, and with stacks. Sell the programmer and get a flip chip. I love the looks of an OBS with some stacks and a small lift. That what I would do if I had the money you were looking at spending. And to the ORG

I'd say go for it for one reason. I guess the other folks never been in college or forgot what it was like. With a regular cab you wont be the one that is asked to drive to the parties or the the bar or take on road trips. The truck you are lookin at sounds like a fantastic deal. If you looked at other trucks and fell in love with this one that doesnt sound like impulse to me. Anyway I'd say go for it. You'll love it.

14.2 on 38s? Is that a 6.0 or a 7.3? If you're thinking high 13's in a 7.3 with a 6 speed, you better think again if your budget is as slim as you claim. It will need a performance clutch - preferably South Bend - some kind of turbo upgrade, more fueling and great tuning. With a manual it's gonna take north of 500 horsepower and darn good shifting to accomplish. Getting 500 rwhp in a 7.3 isn't anwhere near as cheap or easy as the "duracraps" and 3rd gen Cummins "devils" you spoke of. Also if you did go automatic, building an auto (the right way) to hold for many, many quarter mile passes is going to cost a lot more than a cluch upgrade. Could be 3-5K or more depending on what all you have done. The impulse can really get the better of you though, and with a purchase like this it's probably the best time to stray away from buying in that manner. Do a lot of research first, and then take what you learn with you. If you look on autotrader, try to link some of the trucks you like in here so we can take a look and help you out. |

Whoops, got his trucks mixed up. His new auto cummins was runnin 14.2's on his chip's hot setting (5 or 6?). Know on the highest it would hit the fuel rail. Bout to upgrade his injectors and go with a #0 or 1 fuel plate. Runnin 40 pounds too. Man it's a sweet truck even if it dodge. His old black truck up there in that picture was running high 16s, low 17s, and it was a 4wd 7.3 6spd with only a chip, straights to dual stacks, and a bhaf... Pretty sure I'll be able to get similar results. But yeah, I'd imagine it'd drive me crazy driving an auto. Left foot stompin on the invisible clutch, not being able to dump it, and most of all not being able to pick em up by usin the age old "Maybe I'll take you out sometime and teach ya to drive a stick." Plus I plan to be pull 5th wheels, and that granny gear sure is nice! |
