maintance questions
I recently took my 2002 7.3 to the lube to get the oil and fuel filters changed. While there they said the rear oil dif. needed changed, and that there was metal shavings in it which they showed me. They also said I needed the power steering fluid changed, trans fluid, break fluid. Now the truck has 168,XXX on the clock. That being said is this all a come on,and if not how often do ya"ll change these fluids. (not the recommended)

well transmission , rear end , coolant flush are important . they should have being done at least by 100,000 miles or somewhere around that. Now brake fluid and power steering i have no clue i have never done mine and there fine.

My dad worked for a AAMco when he was young and they would drop metal shavings from the brake lathe into the trans pan and tell the customer they needed a trans. My dad quit that day, but I never trust a mechanic unless they can prove it. Yes proper fluid changes are very important but no way would I trust a lube place to put the right fluids in. This is just to easy to do it yourself. I bet they would have put power steering fluid in the power steering resivour. To bad it takes ATF, and replacing it with synthetic will help your steering. Trans should only have Mercon/Dexron III , etc.....
