Just Bought My 7.3L

Alright guys, tryin' to learn a little more about the 7.3. I did have a 6.0 before but anyways, I looked under the hood and there's this pipe that looks like it has aluminum foil around it. What the heck is that for? It doesn't really do anything does it?

Yep, you're right. Might as well just pull it off and leave it.

Didn't you know, engineers love adding things to the engine compartment that aren't used.

if you love the sound of the turbo remove the foil and youll get a little more whistle. the foil is a sound material.

yeap foil delete jus adds a lil more whistle. pull the pipe off pull as much of the foil off as you can with your hands or whatever than take a wire wheel to it and and some goo gone or something to clean it up real nice. put the pipe back on tighten the clamps good and listen to her scream. well not really scream but it does sound alot better

exhaust backpressure valve... that annoying turbine jet engine noise you will hear when you're driving it in the cold. it closes to help the engine warm up but its pretty much useless in any warm environment and just annoying. i wanna delete mine some day.

Is that the noise when you pushin' high RPMs and all of a sudden let off the throttle and it makes that um... sound. I guess it kinda sounds like the turbo is forcin' air or somethin' outta the exhaust.

Could be surge or be the wastegate releasing drive pressure unless your EBPV is stuck. It should stay open unless the oil or coolant temps are under a certain level or was it the IAT? i dont remember anymore which it is.
