Rotella 10w30 syn blend in the 7.3
Its late I’ve been looking for the New Rotella 10w30 syn blend on here, trying to see if any one runs that in their 7.3. I need to change my oil here soon and just trying to figure out what weight to go with. I’ve tried Rotella 5w40 and it seemed to use a bit more than normal, maybe it was getting past the rings, I’m not sure. Right now I’m running Rotella 15w40. I did notice a drop in mpg from the 5w40 to the 15w40, about .50 to 1 mpg.
Just trying to find a good year round oil.

depends on climate, when i lived in alaska i knew people who ran 15w40 all year round, i didnt do that i ran 5w40. with u in north carolina honestly just run 15w40 and you will be fine. just stick with a 40 weight.

p.s. i noticed a bit of oil consumption when i ran rotella synthetic, normal on diesels but then i switched to amsoil and havnt had hardly any consumtion. just hit 3k miles and havnt had to add a drop.

I was thinking about using Rotella 10w30 syn blend in the 7.3, I thought it might help my fuel mileage
, there’s gota be some one who’s tried it. I know some people with the 6.0s like it, I just want to know if its safe to use in our 7.3s.

ill be honest, ive never noticed a mpg increase from switching oil but some people say they do but its going to be a very small gain if at all. the oil is not going to hurt the motor, but you need to think if you start with a 30 weight oil when it starts to shear down to the ballpark of a 20 weight, then i would be worried. most 40 weight guys dont like the thought of the oil shearing to a 30 weight. Only you can decide if you like it, run it for 3k miles then send a sample to blackstone labs and see what they have to say about it.
