automatic power locks door locks question

I did some searching on power locks, door locks, etc and did not find what I am looking for. I dunno if this would be better in the interior section or in the Excursion section but here goes....

2002 7.3L Excursion EB. The power locks automatically lock all four doors when you put it in drive. So then you reach your destination put it in park and turn off the truck and open drivers door. Then you try to open the rear doors to get the kids out and !@%^! the doors are still locked.

-Is this normal or should the doors unlock when you put the truck in park, shut it off?
-Is there a way to disable the auto lock feature? I will just set the child locks on the back doors and decide for myself when to lock the doors....

Thanks for the insight...

The dealer can probably turn that off, I am glad my Y2K truck doesn't do this.

Just unplug the continous wire. When you take off panel you'll see 2 sets of wire one that plugs into the actuator and one next to it. Just unplug it

Deactivating/activating the autolock feature
Before following the procedure, make sure that the ignition is OFF and
all vehicle doors are closed.
You must complete steps 1-7 within 30 seconds or the procedure will
have to be repeated. If the procedure needs to be repeated, you must
wait 30 seconds.
1. Turn the ignition key to ON.
2. Press the power door unlock control three times.
3. Turn the ignition key from ON to OFF.
4. Press the power door unlock control three times.
5. Turn the ignition back to ON. The horn will chirp.
6. Press the unlock control, then press the lock control. The horn will
chirp once if autolock was deactivated or twice (one short and one long
chirp) if autolock was activated. Note: Pressing the power door
lock/unlock control again will toggle between activating and deactivating
the autolock feature.
7. Turn the ignition to OFF. The horn will chirp once to confirm the
procedure is complete.
