ABS Control Module Problem

99 F250 SD 4WD 4Dr all 4 wheels ABS - Early Model 10/98 Manufacture
Local dealership could not get my ABS to accept tire change reprogram yesterday and they said they thought I needed another ABS module. At the $$$Cost$$$ for one of these I'd like to KNOW I need one before replacing. How can I check to make sure? I'm NOT getting a code on my reader and don't notice anything different in braking.
