there are hydaulic versions of this. the few companies doing it are looking to provide 1 million mile warranites. mostly big rigs are trying them out, savign fuel and stayign in peak torque band. a couple years ago a company in Nebraska was putting on in a dmax. IMO, CVT, hydraulic or gear, shoudl be stock in most cars and trucks these days anyawy. no one wants to spend the $$ to re-tool or re-engineer.
