early 99 puked something today

i was driving my old early 1999 psd (279,700mi) today and i was trying to pass a slow driver and the truck puked some pieces of something out the tailpipe along with gray/black smoke...

truck runs fine and the check engine light didn't come on, but i heard a loud pop and then the junk came out. i was only going about 65 getting around the guy... wtf

I can't imagine an engine part getting through the turbo,,, I'd figure it came from there back.

How do you know stuff came out while going down the road at 65? Did you keep any of the pieces?
