Injector Pump and Lift Pump
A guy at a local diesel shop told me that both pumps normally go out around 150,000 miles. Yet it seems if that was true, then I would think there would be a lot of posts on here about replacing these. So, how much truth is in this?

There is no truth in this at all.
To be honest there is no "Injector Pump" and "Lift Pump" unless they are talking about the High Pressure Oil Pump and the Low Pressure Oil Pump... and then still no they dont really just go out after 150k I still run my STOCK HPOP and it has 230k on it and only reason i changed my LPOP is because i had the motor out doing a rebuild so why not change it. |

Cummins have liftpumps...not PSDs

Not really true... A lift pump can be a fuel pump or the LPOP they are both considered "lift pumps"

He is probably talking about the OLD 7.3 non-Turbo lift pump and injection pump, it was not uncommon to see these truck running around with bad lift pumps and they would not rear there ugly heads until the injection pump got tired or someone would run them out of fuel. If you replaced the lift pump normally you could get another 100k or so out of the OEM injection pump.
While I definity don't agree with simply replacing parts "just" to replace parts, with the quality of todays replacement parts but it's your call. |
