Starting and Shutting off

So I just picked up my first diesel truck....01 f250, 7.3, 6spd...only 62K on it!!

Anyway, I am hearing a lot of different things about starting and shutting off these motors. Right now, this is my daily driver, and I go around town, but usually go no farther than about 15 miles from home. The truck is always in its normal operating range when I shut it, but should I be leaving it running? Or is it ok to turn these motors on and off?

I live in Eastern PA...so its gets cold, but not Canada cold, and the truck warms up pretty quick.
