What else can go wrong?!?!?
Sorry to rant. Water pump went out yesterday. Replaced it. Made sure to flush out radiator and heater core and everything. let it all drain. Poured in 2.5 gal of 50/50 fleetrite elc coolant..
first it wont let me pour any more in! the capacity should be way more, after driving it the degas tank was almost overflowing. The temperature gauge read wide open. tried to turn on the heat and the A/C kicked on right away, every time! wtf is going on? i swear my truck has a curse on it. Any ideas? sensor get wet? we did have a light touching the truck that shocked us but i doubt it could have done anything truck is grounded.. im at a loss and its about 2am now, once again. on the bright side got the trucool tranny cooler on and the new water pump is sealed up perfect and seems to be working fine....it was getting plenty hot. is this a crazy thermostat? it still wouldnt explain the a/c turning on by itself..ice cold air no heat in the heater core at all. |

did you remove the tstat when filling the coolant?

It is a huge air bubble, you need to burp your truck. Get it out and drive it. Actually if I were you I would start over because you already screwed up by buying the 50/50 coolant. You need the concentrate, it is impossible to get a true 50/50 mixture with the diluted stuff. I also hope you are using distilled water? I will save you the how to and post it below.

Here you go
You will need 4 gal of concentrate, I recommend the Fleetrite ELC , or any coolant that meets the stringent EC=1 rating. You won't find this at Auto Zone!! Any International dealer will have the Fleetrite on the shelf. You want the concentrate, not the 50/50 pre mix. You will also need 22-24 gal jugs of distilled water. Ask the store manager for a price break!! Dump degas bottle via pet**** on bott of rad. Fill with tap water. Turn heater on high and drive until hot air comes out of the vents, stop dump and refill with tap water, drive/dump. Do this until the water coming out is 100% clear, usually 6-8 times. Once water is clear you know you have 100% tap water in system. Now dump and refill with distilled water, should take 4-5 gal. Drive/dump, drive /dump , each time refilling with distilled water. After doing this 4 times you have a 98.9% ratio, but I like one more for 100%, this will leave you with 100% distilled water. On the last dump refill with 4 gal of concentrate. It may not take it all, just top off with remainder of concentrate or distilled water in the following days as the air burps out. This is also a good time to add a coolant filter and to change the upper rad hose to a dual alt set up that goes over the fan belt and not through it. If you have any ? just PM me. I just read your other post. It is a good idea not to start a new thread when you are talking about the same issue. It really gets confusing. If you would have posted under the other thread you already had going on the water pump I would not have taken the time to post what I did above. But maybe it will help someone else. BTW, I hope you asked for the parts manager at IH, they usually keep the concentrate in the back and they like to push the 50/50 on folks.

would the motorcraft concentrate be ok? ive been using that in all of our trucks and tractor that need green coolant. i can get it @ $12 a gal.

ok listen they didnt have the concentrate in the EC1 just the crappy green stuff.. therefore i went for it the other way. that was the only IH dealer anywhere near and nowhere else had anything and no jarrod we didnt remove it when filling.
