What to look for?
I'm looking at buying a used Powerstroke. It's an 01 F350 crew, longbed, 6-speed, 4x4 with 311k miles. What do I need to look for to make sure I'm not getting a total "Charlie Foxtrot"?

What do you know about how the truck was driven/maintained? 7.3`s can and will last for a long, long time IF they have been taken care of. Do you know the person selling the truck? How much are they asking? Just some things to think about. Unless your heart is just dead set on this truck or they are basically giving it away, keep looking. That is alot of miles if you don`t know how they were put on. JMO.

The truck is on its second owner. The first put approx 280k on it allegedly pulling horse trailers all over creation. It was based out of the Dallas, TX area and passed smog every time according to the vehicle history report. No wrecks or any shenanigans like that. I have not seen any service logs, yet as I've not seen the truck in person, yet.
The current owner is a boy in my Jeep club and has put the last 30k on it pulling Daily Driver duty since he bought it in 07. He's asking $8500, which seems to be at least fair for that truck in that condition (~$8100 trade-in on that truck in "rough" condition, according to NADA). I would venture to guess that it is in better than "good" condition as it sits. ETA: I'm setting up an "appointment" to go inspect the truck while the engine's still ambient temperature. I was really wondering if there are any telltales to look for specific to these diesels and the truck as a whole. Last edited by Tweeder; 04-19-2010 at 01:05 PM. |
