7.3L question

Hi. I'm new to the site here and have searched around a lot of places and can't find the answer I'm looking for. I'm just curious as to why I really don't see anyone pulling much more than 400 horses out of their 7.3L powerstroke even with all the upgrades. I've ran across something about grenading the block? Any help's appreciated.

You can't push over 320-340 with stock injectors and turbo. It not a Hi HP motor, but will pull forever. If you have a 2001 or newer, the rods are Powdered metal and can only take 400-425hp. 6.0 is a differant beast... 400 is easy with just a programer.

Yeah, but I'm a little scared of the 6.0L reputation right now. I've ridden in one with stock gearing, 37" claws and just a programmer and it was a rocket! He's been in the shop quite a few times though.

is the turbo and injectors the only things? I would be replacing them anyways so it wouldn't be so bad. Just an excuse for upgrades!

What do you want to spend? How much HP do you want? For 400hp you will need a GTP-38r, or a H2E, or a turbonetics turbo. A set of injectors, Stage 2's 175cc or bigger (180's would be better). At that point your starting to push the HPOP, and the IC starts to get a bit small... But for about $3000 you could be at 400hp

500hp and above... Studs, head gaskets, H2E (BB will work but your pushing it) IC (if you want it to be towable) Mini me's, 530's or so for injectors, really should look at rods... Dual HPOP's is a good thing at this level... But for about $4000-4500 your there...

Thats not counting the Tranny...$4000 for that...

THe PMR rods are what sucks. They break, which puts a hole in the block or similar. Costs a quite a few "grand" to repair. Very costly.
