Have you tried it moving, or only in park? Try just doing 15 or so miles an hour on it, without having any strain on it, shift it back to 2wd. My father has an expedition with the shift on the fly. Otherwise it could be something more complex such as the vacuum lines.

Will it shift into 4 lo or is it just stuck in 4 hi. Maybe the shift solenoid is stuck or fried. If you have access to a good scanner, maybe there is a code or with AutoEnginuity, I think you can actuate it with the program.

i had that happen to me and found out that the wire running from the switch to the solenoid had rubbed through and was grounding out

the solenoid on the front of the transfer case has two plugs on it the one on the front has no power to it is it supposed to and the one on the side has power to it

One plug runs the shift motor and one tells the dash light if it's in hi, lo, or 2wd. At least thats how my 00 is. With the key on, get under it and have someone turn the switch. Can you hear anything, like the motor trying? The plug that powers it has two prongs. Power swaps sides to turn the shift motor one way or the other. If you have power on both sides, probably the shift motor is shot. Before buying a new one, check the fuses and relays first though.
