1st Leg of trip to Maine

OK so I left Friday from Key West travleing to Maine (new duty station), stopped in Kissimmee to pack up the wife and kids. On my way up, I consistently pulled between 1000-1100 EGT's taveling about 65-70MPH and a little higher up small grades. Tranny temp about 180. So I think this all sounds pretty decent. What do you guys think?? I also found that running my programmer in the 40HP setting made a world of difference. Stock just sucked!! Could barely run 65 at that was kinda pushing up the EGT's (1200) Figuring the boat and trailer weigh about 7500-8000 lbs and sticks WAY up in the air. I was also pulling one heck of a HEAD wind:blowup: Thanks for all the input and offers for help if I need it! Nice to know ya got friends out there if ya need it. Will be leaving Kissimmee the 26th or 27th for MAINE.

Sounds good to me but I would want those EGT's to stay a little lower but that is me.

Mine are usually that high when towing hard. Not that it's good, but it's not out of the ordinary IMO. Did you run it with the chip higher? Mine runs best loaded in my high tow range. I guess it's got enough fuel to get the turbo working

I only tried towing in Stock and 40HP settings. I might try the 60Hp setting and see how that does. I know running the 40 setting, my EGT's for the same speed 65mph were about 50-100 cooler than stock setting. Go figure!! Loaded a bunch more stuff into the boat now, so I figure I will be pushing about 9-10Klbs going up to Maine, but I will try the 60 setting and see what it does! Thanks guys.

EGT's do seem a little high for the weight, but your tranny temps sound good. Are you running in O/D? Those big tires and 3.73's don't help you for towing but at 8,000lbs you shouldn't be noticing it that much.

G'luck with your trip and be safe!

Those temps were with O/D on. Wasn't hunting for gears, so ran it like that. Ran for a while with O/D off, but tranny temps ran a little hotter (190-195) so I didn't like that either, so I just ran with od on and kept a close eye on EGT and tried to keep it around 1000 or so. I will try a little experimenting and see what happens. I really liked driving with O/D off at 65, but didn't like the tranny temps, but EGTs then were about 900. SO what is the worse evil, lower tranny temps and high EGT, or high tranny and low EGT??
