Horrible Mileage

We bought a 2000 f250 crew 4X4. It is our first diesel and I am very dissapointed in the mileage. I have done the mileage by hand and over four tanks the average has been right at 11.5mpg. When we bought it I had spoke to the previous owner and he stated that the original owner superchipped it. Is this the reason if it is even true that it has been superchipped. What can I do that isn't going to cost a ton of money to get my mileage up. Everyone that I talk to that has them say they get around 18mpg. Any help would be great. I don't want to get rid of it all ready but I'm not going to keep pumping diesel in it if I don't have too.

i just took a 3500 mile road trip and got 8 towing a trailer. on another 1k mile road trip i got 13.8 with just the trk. average 75 mile an hour.

A big effect on mileage in these trucks will be driving style. Winter weather has some effect on mileage as well, not sure where you are located. I'm not sure if you have gone through your fluids and filters, air filter,and checked basic maintenance on it but that will all help too. Tire size is a factor as is any additional weight that's not necessary. Some people claim to get around 18 and that would be sweet. I think some of the 7.3s that are getting the best mileage are going to be the 2wd manual tranny trucks. You should be able to gain a little more than your 11.5 but wouldn't expect a whole lot. My mods are in my sig, but I do have slightly larger tires as well and my truck get is getting about 13.5 city in the winter time.

I get 18-19 consistently, even driving 75mph. That's pretty good for a 7,000 lb truck.

get around 15mpg city and 20hwy here.

13 city and 16-17 hwy, always hand figured. Overhead claims 22-23. Best I have ever seen is 18.5 hwy.

I average 12.5-13.5 so far all around with my Dually, I wills ee how it goes with summer fuel when we get it, I drive a little faster so that does not help, neither do the 4:10's at 70 mph, I am at 2400 around 2000PRM is the sweet spot..

Im having a time with my mileage to. I havent be able to get over 11 in the past 3-4 months. I have tried everything, I used to get 14-15 regardless of how or where I drove. I got 22 on a 500 mile trip once but can barely get half that now. I cleaned my ebp tube and sensor today that was pretty clogged up with soot so I hope that will magically add 4 more mpg
