belt tensioner bad?
'99 f350 ps
Lost a couple of ribs off the belt. went to put new one on and notice the tensioner not lined up with the other pulleys. its out of its housing. tried pushing it back in but won't stay. can this be fixed or is the tensioner bad and has to be replaced? Thanks! |

The tensioner will go bad on these. If its loose and out of line then it probably needs replaced. I broke a belt on my 96 and replaced it, had about 50 miles on the new belt and it was already wearing out because my tensioner was bad. Changed the tensioner and all was well.

If you decide to replace it, PM me. I have one I pulled off my truck because I thought it was making the squeek, but the new one squeeked too! replaced the idler pully and still squeeked! ended up replacing the belt and no more squeek.

I need to replace my tensioner on my 2000 Excursion, 7.3, what should I tourqe the bolt at? Just replaced the water pump, all the hoses, including heater hoses. Mechanic didn't notice the tensioner was bad till he put it all back together. Is this a difficult task.

take off the belt, take out the 2 bolts, remove, replace, put in 2 bolts install belt. Should take maybe 15 to 30 minutes. no big deal at all.
