A/C compressor on and off

So I when my truck was warming up the other day i heard the clutch on the A/c engage and disengage quite a few times. maybe every 20 - 30 seconds it will stay on for about a second. I know its supposed to turn on and rotate every once in a while so it doesn't seize up but should it be turning on and off this often?

when you have your defrost on it cycles more often to keep the air cooler so you
don't bust your windshield because of the temp diff.

it's like throwing hot water on a frozen window
