Any reason not to do the DIY intake?

I have a friend who want's to but was told it was bad for his truck?

Any reason that this might be? I haven't had anytrouble with mine. Infact I think it made mine better.

A K&N or other oil washed filter media is bad for it. as long as you use a filter with a dry element you'll be good, and make sure all your fittings are sealed up tight.

The only bad (if you call it that) thing is you can hear more air sucking noise....it doesn't bother me...

I have one on mine with absolutly no trouble. The only thing that it does is sound like its sucking up small animals but it dont bother me and plus it filters better than the stock filter and it is much much cheaper than a marketed CAI

and if you install a ww and pull something heavy you hear the turbo scream a lot. It can get a little annoying after 1k miles grossing 22k pushing 7 psi+ the whole time. then you come to a hill and it jumps to 16 to 20 psi and it makes your ears cringe.

But other then that, its a good thing to have!

It's freaking loud. That's the bad part. I'm ready to go to a Ford AIS which will be quieter, plow nearly as well, filter better, but more expensive.
