Question Let it idle or start on stop?

Im sure this has been brought up before, but I just want to figure out all your opinions. These days fuel is expensive and most of the time Im doing alot of little stop and go things on the farm. Am I better to leave it run all the time or turn it on and off. I have heard that its hard on a diesel to turn them off and on alot. Is this true?

It might wear the starter out faster and some other things but anymore it won't burn more fuel to start then stop. That was for the old diesels. I prefer to leave it on. Unless it's for more than 30 minutes or so.

The worst thing you can do to ANY machinery is to stop and start it. Initial start up is where most of your wear is going to occur.

I'm with jesilvas, over 30 min, shut her down, less than that, leave it running.
