Nothing wrong with synthetic. Went to 4 different stores today and could only find 5w-40 in sythetic. I ended up buying some though, $19.50 a gallon (OUCH)! By the way how many miles between oil changes using synthetic (first time user)?

5W-40 is what you want, especially if it gets cold by you.

$19-20 is normal price at TrailerTrash Mart.

Oil change will be $100 (4 gals. + filter)

As for what mileage to change at. You will get a million different points of view. Do a search and make your own informed choice.

Not much over 5k. 5k to 7.5k because of the HPO system. It shears the oil molecules. I'd run it for 5k, send in a sample and see how it's doing and go from there.
