What's my chime telling me?
Hey every one,
Have another odd situation. Hope someone can enlighten me as to what's going on or wrong. Started a few days ago. The door chime will beep slowly about two seconds appart 5 times, then go away for a few about 5 seconds, and then repeat. I've checked to insure doors are closed, and there is no SES light or overdrive light flashing. All guages look normal. No door ajar light. Seems to start happening after all warmed up and driven for a while. Any idea's please? Thanks always, Dean Last edited by Brickhouse; 02-11-2010 at 05:52 AM. Reason: Added data |

Does the 'door ajar' light come on at the same time? If so, they will need some WD-40 or some other lubricant sprayed on the hinges of the lock. They will stick, and show that the door is still open

I would try there first as well. Sorry man, I have never encountered this.

Nope, no door ajar light. No indicator lights showing. updated original post.

If I have time afterwork today, I will try and plug the AE and check for codes. But being the way it's acting, I would think it's some kind of indicator code? Isn't sounding like when the door is open, being that is a constant sound. Very odd.
Maybe something in the headlight system? |

Sounds kinda like a seatbelt minder to me. was your truck equiped with that? I had to disable mine for quick trips when I didn't feel like wearing my belt. I have heard of them coming on though, even when bluckled up if the seatbelt buckle sensor is faulty

I will check that out, but I think the two systems are a different sound. good idea.
Also, when it's happening, if I open the door, the standard door chime over rides the odd sequence. Shut door, it comes back. |

check your passenger side airbag switch. if the light is burned out, or disconnected somehow, it will chime, just as you are describing. if this is the case, simply go to radio shack or wherever, and get a small bulb, solder it in there, and go home happy.
At the local dealer, the part was $150 something. It cost me 1.00 for a bulb, and an extra couple minutes over replacing the switch, to solder it in. |

For the passenger side airbag switch, my rig doesn't have a switch on the dash if that's the switch your referencing? if there is another switch elsewhere (started life as an XLT), please let me know where to look?
Thanks every one, Dean |
