4wd on our trucks
I have an 03 SC. Quick few questions about the auto hubs etc. Can I be driving down a trail, turn the switch to 4 high before I see a nasty part on the trail go thru it and pop it right back into 2wd? Do I need to stop? Do I need to do anything or will it just engage as soon as I turn it and unlock right when I put it back into 2wd? What about 4 low? I just upgraded from a 97, so I'm used to hoppin out locking the front end and stopping to put it in neutral and shift into 4wd. Looking forward to replies.

Techinacally yes that is how it should work. You should be able to cruising down the road or trail. When you need 4wheeldrive hit the switch and it engages.
But if I was off road, I would be in 4hi already. |

it will go right into 4x4 if the auto hubs are working... if you want to go into 4 low you have to put it in N... make sure your auto hubs work before you getinto a spot that is too bad

4 HI will shift on the fly, but 4 LO you have to be stoped with the vehicle in neutral and your foot pressing the brake.

That was quick. I have been stopping and putting in N just to put it in 4wd. My auto hubs definitely work

For now..... they will stop working on you at the worst time, trust me... If you are off road all the time, I would put on the warn hubs and lock them as needed. that way when you hit the 4x4 switch you KNOW its going to give you 4x4 (ish). Its sad to call an open diff a 4x4 isnt it? I wish arb air lockers were not so freakin expensive!

i have to say tho, when our 4wd works, it works damn good, but im comparing that to my old f150. When my hubs are locked in i feel like my truck will go through anything.

That is not a good feeling to have. when you dont have that fear you get confident and that is what gets you in trouble. That is why I sold my r1. I stopped being scared of it and started to really feel like I could do anything. too much longer and I would have probably killed myself.
