Trans OD light flashing

Just put a rebuilt 4R100 trans in the truck (2003 7.3 diesel) and it does not work in reverse or drive. The truck was stuck in 1 gear with old trans. Any ideas of what the problem could be?

probably shot.. need to take it to a tranny shop and have them pull some codes..then have you pull out some $$$$ for a rebuild.

something was messed up with the installation or the new tranny is shot.... the blinking OD light is a SEVERE warning sign. When that happens its almost always a big $$$ deal

I'm afraid i've got to agree..Normally when the OD light flashes it means bad news bears...but somethin to consider, my dad had the same problem. truck wouldn't shift right, but he still could use reverse, and his light was flashing. He just unplugged the sensor that sits on top of your rearend and he said there were metal shavings on it. He cleaned it up and hasn't had an issue since. worth a shot, hope it helps

This isn't a VSS issue, it is a trans issue and since you just put this "rebuilt" trans in I would be looking for whoever sold it to you, probably laughing on the way to your bank to cash the check. The flashing OD light simply means you have a stored trans code, but at this point it is obvious you have a trans problem!!! Sorry but let us know how it turns out.

My light flashes every now and then and has for around a year. It usually just does this if i drive more than 100 ft or so in reverse. Other than that i have no problems with the trans. Any ideas?

My OD light started flashing after going 95 mph for about 20 miles straight. Then my overdrive went out and about 50-75 miles after it started flashing, front seal blew out of the tranny and that was it. It sealed back up but about 2 weeks later it blew out again and that was the end for that tranny.

If the light comes on it means you have a stored code and it needs to be read in order to know what the issue is. The light being on has nothing to do with reading the code, the code is there until it is cleared.
