oil pressure gauge question

The stock dash oil pressure gauge, is this one of those that only has a couple places to read? Like too low, ok, high?
Where can i hook a real gauge to to check actual pressure?
What should it be reading? whats good oil pressure on a 7.3 at idle?
My factory gauge takes a couple maybe a few seconds to get a reading after the truck starts? Is this normal? I am sure it takes a brief period for the oil to get to the sending unit?

Are you wanting to check LPO or HPO?

Mine takes about the same amount of time to jump up too.

Yes it takes a couple seconds... it is reading the pressure in the top of the reservoir. Not sure what numbers are good though...
