dome light problems
ok so the dome light in my truck wont turn on when the door opens or when the switch on the dash is turned on (the key in ignition door open dinger still works tho so i know its not the door switch) the courtesy light by the 3rd brake like also doesnt turn on i have checked i have no power at the dome light i didnt check the light on the back of the cab i checked the fuses they all seem good check in cab and under hood the light worked up untill a few weeks ago
im lost here is there something else i should be looking for i searched dome light and found something about relays so im gonna run out and check that try swapin some around and see if it does anything dash lights work fine and dim with dimmer i just checked i have power on both sides of fuse 14 (dome and court.) so the fuse isnt bad i was also wondering if it was the headlight switch but didnt think it would keep it from coming on when the door is open because that should override the dash switch also have no power at the courtesy lights on the rear of the cab thanks for all your help brett |

Sure sounds like a problem in the door switch, try spraying some lube in it.

where is the switch at also i didnt think it was a door switch because the dinger still goes off when the key is in the ignition when you open the door but i know you know more than i do about these trucks hornet the door ajar light also comes on when the door is opened also i have the work truck package so i dont have the delay relay

yup no matter what i do i can not get it to go on i can open both doors and turn the dash switch on and it still doesnt light up i know its not the bulbs i have checked with a volt meter and have no current at the dome or courtesy on the cab and both dome and courtesy quit working at the same time i doubted 3 bulbs would all burn out at the same time but i have confirmed that there is no power at the bulb socket i am wondering if the courtesy light uses a separate power wire than the dome or is it teed off of the dome light
if it is just teed off the dome light im thinking i may have a bad wire when i bought the truck the dome light would work when you taped on it i found out that the reason you had to tap on it was because the bulb socket was loose on the bulb i fixed that but it got hot enuff to discolor the plastic for the bulb holder from the increased resistance im wondering if this would have melted the hot wire but i would think that if this is the case i would blow the fuse for it with a "hot" wire bouncing against the roof tin sorry i have had such long posts but i know for electrical the more info the better |
