Help with a chip

I'm looking for a little information on a chip. I want a little more power and fuel economy for pulling a 29' camper and a 20' boat mostly on flat ground. Currently my truck is stock. It works great as is, but would like to try a chip without adding the gauges. I do not rod my truck or drive it hard, just would like a little more power and torque for pulling. Any pointers or advice would be great. Thanks for the help

Superchips 1855. We basically have the same rig, If your looking for reliable off the shelf power you will not be disappointed.

If you want a chip withOUT gauges, I would say a low HP CUSTOM tune since they tune for everything that is on your truck. Whether it's 4 or 2 wheel drive, has exhaust, an intake, what trans, what mods, what the computer is, everything. That way, if you don't run gauges, then they can make it generally safe enough to run without gauges. An off the shelf chip won't be made safe to run without gauges at all in my opinion. Besides, they tune for everyone's truck, not yours only. So the transmission tuning and everything else won't be as good.

i would not put a superchips or any off the shelf tuner on your truck... ill have to find them but someone has pictures of what a superchips did to their engine and lets just say its not pretty...

first of all not running gauges is just dumb.. you NEED to run gauges.... a set of 300 dollar gauges could mean the diff of having to do major upgrades or not....

second.. your stock trans temp gauge is just a dummy light.. it will not go on until you have cooked your transmission...

so gauges is a must even if your running stock...

that being said go with a custom tuned chip.. you can get some not so hot tunes that will work good for what you plan to do but i do not recommend putting any chip or tuner without gauges... your asking for trouble if you do

I agree I had a superchip and pulled a 20' runabout (02 f250 4X4 3.73) and could very easily get the egt to 1500* and I had my probe after the turbo so I assume I was flirting with 18-2000*. Get the gauges even if you don't tune it. And a custom chip is not alot more than a plug in programmer.

just my $.02

Thanks for the input. I was thinking that I could get buy without gauges if I did not drive it hard. I will have to look in the sponser area for more info on gauges and a custom chip.

Listen to Raul... he is the most knowledgeable guy on here.

He does have all the parts you need but he never pushes you to buy his stuff.

PS, he is having a black Friday sale so make sure to check out his company link.

Have been running a Superchips on an 02 7.3 for a long time pulling 18K all over the USA and Canada on a steady basis without problems using "tow mode". works fine from flatlands to western mountains. Also have "FULL" set of guages which are monitored the same as the mirrors.
