2wd to 4wd conversion

well my buddy just totalled his 2000 ext cab long bed 4wd 6sp man truck, hit a tree right between the frame rails, im goin tomorrow with him to see what kind of damage there is. is it possible to use whats salvageable from his truck and swap to my early 99 ext cab long bed 2wd? mines and auto, i really want a manual and 4wd and my truck is in good shape, i wouldnt be able to sell it and buy a 4wd tho. i think there is some damage to the front diff, but i could use all the steering and everything thats still good and find all the other parts id need. think its possible and worth the time? im unemployed right now so i have all the time in the world to mess with it

since u have a donor truck it isnt that big of a fools run, but if you do go threw with it do a sh*t load of reseach before u start. i think you would also need the computer, but im not sure. someone that knows more than me will probably chime in here shortly.

actually it all should work pretty good the tricky part I can think of is if yours is coil over and his is leaf spring. Other wise it is pretty straight forward. Even the manual swap is easy I am told. It is basically a bolt in with minor cutting.

i know ill have to cut the trans tunnal and swap computers. but i dont know about bolting the suspension up

I have been told you can modify your computer for use with the manual trans. Just have to add a wire or something. There is a guy on here that I talked to that has done it....lemme see if I can find his write up....

you might have to steal his leaf mounts. ford stopped making alot of the front ones.
