Transmission Linkage

Anybody every had transmission linkage problems? What i mean is that my shift lever on the steering column (automatic) the arrow says n but its really in reverse i know a lot of older trucks start doing this i guess a old age problem, But lately mine will not start unless i slam it it in park before i turn it off, Is there an adjustment or something getting tired of sitting there turning the key till someting happens. sometime i can find nuetral but doesn't alway help. 99 f-250 4x4 lwb 5.5" lift w/ edge programmer. 162k

I had that problem with an older van at work, took it to the dealer and got new linkage I believe.

I have that problem on my explorer and a ranger at work. I asked a friend that works at the local city garage and I think he said you can adjust it in the dash or column. I can't remember though.
