Odd Occurance

Ok, fellas!

Not 100% sure what's going on here. It has happened twice now and scares the ever-loving piss out of me.

Drove to the grocery store, just barely hit full operating temp. All was well, turned the truck on while I was loading groceries and I noticed that there was very little airflow out of the tailpipe, yet it was making an awfully loud 'woosh.' On the way home, EGT's were way higher than they should be, hitting 900 accelerating slowly on flat ground, very little power. Engine also making very loud 'woosh'. I thought maybe I popped an intercooler boot?

Next morning went to work, it was fine. Fine for 2 days. I leave my truck plugged in at work though.

This morning, same damn thing. EGT's were ungodly... Hard to maintain 35mph uphill, getting close to 1,000*!

Came to a stop sign at the bottom of a hill and rolled to ease the load. At the same time, I turned my heater on and...bam! Woosh noise went away, truck started making good power again... HUH!? At this point, I was near or at FOT.

Does this sound like a malfunctioning EBV? Or do I have a randomly un-sealing intercooler boot?

Thanks all.

Thats the EBPV for sure. It should kick on when the truck is cold to help it warm up. Just let it warm up alittle longer before driving.

It should open up after your foot is on the pedal for just a bit. Mine does. I can notice when it's closed cause I have very little power but then it's fine.

Thanks guys. It's kicked on before, but I've never felt it like this. I let the truck warm up for about 10-15 minutes this morning, but maybe I'll flip the chip over to high-idle until I can figure out where to plug it in at my apt.... Stupid job transfers.

If I put my foot in it a little better, will it kick off? I've had the lack of power before, but never like this, and EGT's never climbed like this.

I should add, the first instance, the truck was still reading 1/2 way between FOT and cold when I fired it up. It was probably low 50's, high 40's out. I just thought it odd that some mornings with similar temps, and I have yet to have this problem.

On my truck in the mornings I can tell its on when it starts. But if I tap the brake it will cut the EBPV off. Is that normal?

That should be normal I'd think. It all depends on a lot of things. On my truck sometimes it'll do that and sometimes I can put it in drive and go and it'll stay closed for a bit.
Since everything is computer controlled, it uses all kinds of algorithms to decided when to idle up and how far and when and how long to leave the EBPV closed.

NO, DONT romp on a cold truck until it behaves! Let it do its thing. It only stays on for 5-10 minutes until its warm enough.

DONT DO THAT you can float valves if the ebv is closed!!!! plus never romp on a cond diesel engine that will kill it really fast!! you can install a switch to control when it comes on and then have yourself an exhaust brake to boot
