Key removal while engine running?

Crown vic police cars could remove the key from ignition while running....anyone know if this could be done?

I know with mine, if you turn the key a little bit you can pull the key out and start it without the key being in.

With my remote start, I can remove my key and leave the truck running.

Mine works the same way.I love it when I can run in the store for a second and not have to kill the engine.

That usually from a worn out key that's why you can do it in my 1980 cj5

Supposedly the local PD had this done to their ignition so they could pull the keys and lock the door while it's running...was just wondering if there is/was a clip in the ignition I (anyone) could remove so the key comes out while in the run position. guess not

i can do it on mine....
apply light pressure on the key to pull it out... and turn the switch at the same time.... then the key ends up on your hand...

its probably not a good thing and is probably just from it being worn out (maybe too many things hanging on your key?)

On my OBS the cylinder is so worn out most of the time I use the key to get the ignition "unlocked" and then the key pulls right out. Nice for those quick drug store runs. I'm sure it's broken but I like it!
