Thumbs up try synthetic

Go with AMS-Oil

http://www.amsoil.com/

This stuff is amazing! Check out the poll that we did on what oil you use, I put a little bit more detail in there and am going to post a pic soon.

GoodLuck, hope you love your truck as much as I do mine!

Redline Motor Oil is good too. I've tried a couple different brands and I really can tell what the motor likes. (If that makes sense). It runs better on the Redline. So I would try a couple of them out and just note how the truck runs, how quick the turbo spools up etc.

Smile What oil is right?

I recently changed my oil for the first in my used '03 7.3; after about 1200 miles, the oil is still clear and the crankcase is full. I used Mobil Delvac 1300 Super 15W-40 because it is the least costly to buy and it also conforms to the Ford oil specification for the engine. I will probably go with Mobil1 for Pickups and SUVs the next time; it meets the SAE standard of CI-4. It also comes in 5-quart jugs, exactly 3 of which are needed for the oil change. Shell Rotella T synthetic is another choice which also meets the API certification of CI-4Plus. I do not know what the "plus" means; I do know that the Delvac has the same ratings. Neither Shell nor Mobil specifically have the Ford specification, but both say that they (the suppliers) recommend their products for the Power Stroke.

Any responses or other suggestions?

Mobil Delvac is what BART (Bay area rapid transit) has changed to, they don't change there oil at all, they just change the filters and add more oil. I sell mobil in our shop and the salesman sold me on it. I have run it in my 99 F350 for about a year now, I have changed the filter once. It has been to Canada and back to california and the wife and I go a lot. I have about 16K on the oil and am thinking about changing it. I just don't want to rush into anything. Mike OB

I changed my oil about 3 weeks and 600 miles ago using Rotella 5W-40 synthetic and a PureOne filter. Advance Auto parts sells the PureOne filter; you have to ask for it where I live because they do not display it on the shelf. They had a sale where I paid $5.00 each (I bought 3). So far, so good.
