IDM.
If you checked the harness' and plugs both inside and out, then most likely it's the IDM. |

Thanks, pulled both valve covers and both plugs (inside and out) are connected. Vranked truck and unplugged drivers side plung going into the valve cover and it did not change the way it runs. CEL is on and the P1316 is the only code.

P1316 means there is a code is set in the IDM. Check the harness all the way back to the IDM. If you can, find a spare IDM or someone with a known good one to eliminate the IDM as the problem. What year truck is it?

p1316 is most likely to be a short harness loose under the valve cover if you can get a scanner that will run injector buzz test , it will tell you which cylinder is cutting out , may have to pull both off if problem isnt happening when its scanned

He knows which cylinder is cutting out.....one whole bank. He has also removed both covers and the harness look OK.

the truck is a 2003 with 145,000 miles on it. It has an Air Raid filter, throtle body spacer, and running Edge program. The CPS has been changed. Where is the IDM located? The local Ford dealer does not not have the IDM in stock.

You don't want one from the local dealer. Way too expensive. Check eBay or a wrecker. There are also some places that will do repairs.
The IDM is located up underneath the driver side fender well, approx. where the F250/F350 emblem is. You will have to take out the fender well liner to be able to see it/get at it. |

I thought it was on the drivers side. in 2007 I was hit in the drivers door by a plymounth Breeze doing about 100 mph it turned the truck 90 degrees and took out the front axle, steering box and radiator, dirvers side door, running board and fender. I'll bet it damaged the IDM and it is now showing up. I have a friend at the Ford dealership parts dept. still cost too much. I am looking at abay.

Make sure you get an IDM-120. I see a few on eBay for $199.
No chance you could find one to swap out just to be sure? |
