need ac help

If you turn your ac on while the vehicle is off then turn the key to the on position whitoutt turning it over should you hear the ac clutch engage or should it stay still?

the clutch engages which means that the clutch wont spin free anymore, both my trucks do it

Ok thanks. I didn't think it was suppose to click until after the truck was started. But I guess its suppose to happen before.
