steering gear boxes

I was looking at steering gear boxes, rebuilt ones. I saw 32 and 37 spline.
I know i can go count the splines. I was wondering whats the differences in boxes? Was early 99's one count and late the other? Did they make 2 ratios? just wondering if theres a difference that anyone knows of?
