2001 7.3 F350 4x4 Supercab tranny problems??

Folks, I am looking at a PowerStroke and the owner tells me that he had the tranny rebuilt at around 130,000 due to a problem with the tranny. He told me that the re-builder (reputable shop) told him that he was surprised that it lasted as long as it did. The truck now has over 150K on it now. The question that I have is this tranny a problem one for the 2001? I did call a Ford dealer and talked to a mechanic and he told me that this is strange because hsi guys really like the 2001 7.3 as it is one of their favorite engines. Can anyone give me some advice?

It is an awesome engine the transmision is the weak point in the truck.

Early 99 f-250 cab and half longbed 4" intake and exhaust edge evolution II(for egt and boost guage only), trans temp guage trucool max 40K, TW 6 pos

yep, the tranny is really the weak point in any diesel pickup truck. I got rid of my '06 Cummins. Tranny's are crap in those rigs. I went back to an '02 Ford and LOVE IT. just keep the tranny well serviced, don't abuse it, and keep it cool and you should be ok.
