01 7.3 trans fluid?

Hi...

I'm installing a trans cooler and FTVB this w/e and i'm wondering what folks are running fro automatic trans fluid in these things. Mercron is the recommended and the Mercron V has been recently approved for use right?

Well, what about synth fluid or any other '3rd party' transmission juice?

What are ye'all using?

I use the fluid previously known as Mercon/Dextron. Most places still have it. Bought
mine at wallyworld last time.

Please use search!! Mercon V is mentioned specifically in your owners manual not to use it. Yes Ford now says Magically it is all of a sudden now okay. There has been no reformulation of Mercon V, it is exactly the same as it was in 2000, so nothing is going in my trans but Mercon/DexronIII, and yes it is still available. Napa sells their fluid called simply "ATF" and it is the same as the old Mercon fluid.

the core of my question is 'who uses third party stuff and what are their experiences....maybe my original wording was a bit off....

if there's nothing better than simple Dextron....that's fine too.

I use AMSOIL. No problems to date!
