What can you tell me about water pumps?

Kragen sells a Cardone new $193

Pep Boys sells a Bosch new $229

Local Ford dealer wants $270

My understanding via the thread search is that the oem is an Airtex

Ford Truck Parts Online wants $133 for a new Airtex

Somebody posted a note about a pump that was upgraded, something to do with the gasket on the back, i think. i can't relocate the thread.

My list of stuff for the water pump project:

fan tools
pump/gasket
thermostat/gasket
pump lubricant fw-16
gray silicone
coolant filter
upper hose (switch to the 2-alternator hose to go outside the belt?)
lower hose
thread sealant
antifreeze (type?)
beer

I'm not sure about an upgrade. What model do you have?

I use Prestone green anti-freeze and NAPA coolant treatment.

As for the beer, make sure you have plenty, It may take a while.

Make sure you have a wrench that will fit the fan clutch before you start tearing down!

2000 crew cab xlt. got it last night. smells like a sticky sweet truck stop lot lizard. appropriately scented with diesel hues. mmmmmmmmm.
